The Modernization of the IHM Parish Library has proceeded very well. A debt of gratitude is owed to Luis Marquez for taking on the Eagle Scout project and all who gave their time updating the volumes, barcoding the collection, entering the books into the new online program, researching sources, and refiled the texts after they were recorded; a huge Thank You. Without your help and enthusiasm, none of this would have been possible.
The library is now renewed and updated with a variety of resources with broad appeal to many readers. A new system called Library Thing/Tiny Cat has been installed, placing the collection online to make access to the resources easier to visualize and lend to patrons. In addition to the books discussing history and spirituality, there are several texts on contemporary topics, including well-known popular titles. There is a children’s section resplendent with fun titles for the younger set, as well as a collection of DVDs for instruction and pleasure. You are invited to come and look at what is now offered.
Interested parishioners may now request an IHM Parish Library Membership Card. The library cards are bar-coded and contain the ID information for the borrower. Library cardholders will sign in as a Patron to access the new circulation system to search and reserve books. Reserved books will be retrievable in the rectory. This system is like that used in a public library and eases the circulation and record-keeping of the collection.
