A statue of the namesake of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, with her arms outstretched, looks lovingly down upon all who enter the Scarsdale church. We have welcomed everyone, inside and outside the community, for over 100 years. The statue of Mary faces directly out toward Post Road, a main thoroughfare off Carman Road where our English-gothic style church majestically sits.
Over 1,680 families are registered at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Currently, four weekend Masses, and two weekday Masses are offered with proper social distancing. We look forward to the day when we will once again have a special Family Mass on Sunday mornings, followed by coffee and donuts and a quick get together to catch up with friends and neighbors.
Immaculate Heart of Mary School has an enrollment of 200 students. There is also a vibrant religious education program for grades 1 to 8, with over 700 students enrolled. A unique high school of religious education is available for teenagers; who enjoy weekly meetings and group activities centered around the Catholic faith.
IHM parish is involved in many social ministries, including Midnight Runs into Manhattan to bring food and clothing to the homeless; a food pantry; and a special “Bread Table” in which parishioners sell home-baked goods to benefit programs that feed the hungry, among other needs.
Other active ministries include St. Veronica’s Guild for women who care for the altar; Boy and Girl Scouts; and a CYO basketball program.
The parish looks forward once again to offering perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in “Our Lady’s Chapel.” Built in the late 1940s, the chapel was first used for weekday Mass. In the 1990s, it was designated as an Adoration Chapel.
In October 2020 IHM welcomed a new Pastor, Monsignor Luke Sweeney.
